Night vision for watching geese?

I just learned that their were devices for seeing birds at night. I would like to buy a device for a friend for Christmas. I think it would be low end because he doesn't know anything about this. What would you suggest for getting started?

Hi

Most Gen 1 NVs will have a very limited range for this type of work, probably 100 yards or less on a typical night for something the size of a goose. try the Night Owl Explorer, http://www.opticsplanet.net/night-owl-discovery-series-3x-monoculars.html
