...looks smaller in the piture.

What I mean by compact http://www.opticsplanet.com/msgboard/about6958.html
is something like these:
Bushnell # 783001, Leupold #56446, Velbon Deluxe Mini Tripod Product Code: VN-TR-DF-10ML, etc.

I'm partial to Kowa but I don't want that to sway my decision if there is something better in that price range.
Something lightweight, portable, a QR (Quick release. A little slow but I got it) plate (I have that on my full size tripod. A very nice feature) that pans, adjusts and overall operates smoothly.

Hi Chris

The best quality compact we carry is the Leupold, 56446, http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-compact-tripod.html It is the only one of these that is all metal.

Hi Chris

It has a small ball head, suitable for getting on target, quicly, but not sutiable for panning. To be honest, no compact in this range will feature much in the way of a good pan head.

If I was going to build a comapct with a good pan head, I'd take the Bogen 3126, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bogen-manfrotto-3126-micro-fluid-head.html and add it to a leg set that has a 3/8" mounting stud. We carry the 3126, but not a suitable leg set. Sorry.

Why would OP carry the head but not the legs?

Where would the legs be found?

Hi

We don't have much of a demand for pan heads on compacts. Panning is a feature normally done with a full size tripod.
