I am not certain if the Mak (Bushnell Mak 90) scopes are the way to go or to get perhaps a 90mm refractor...your input is appreciated.

Hi

A 90mm Mak, in this case the Bushnell, will provide images that are equal or superior to a achromatic 90mm refractor in terms of color correction and will equal such a refractor in terms of image resolution. The refractor will typically be slightly brighter and will also offer slightly more contrast, but between the two, you will not notice a great deal of difference optically.

The Mak, however, offers a significant advantage in terms of compactness and portability. (A 90mm f/9 refractor will be a much larger instrument.) The Bushnell Mak also does a great job as a spotting scope for daytime use. (A large refractor, especially one on an equatorial mount, is much more awkward to use by day.)
