what exactly does the tlr remote switch do, and will the tlr-2 fit my smith and wesson M&P .40 compact? thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated

Remote switch is a pressure pad used to activate the functions of the unit. It is used with the 69130 http://www.opticsplanet.net/streamlight-tlr-battery-door-switch-assembly.html door switch. The 69120 http://www.opticsplanet.net/streamlight-tlr2-weapon-mounted-flashlight-laser.html will fit your gun.
