I need a new scope for my 300 in Mag will be hunting Carabou in Alaska, not sure if I should go with Nikon or Leupold. Have talked to severl sales persons and each has his own opinion. But I would like to have at least a 12 to 16 power max with the bottom end being a 3.5 or 4 power. Have looked at the Nikon Monarch 4-12x40 and the Leupold Vari-x II 4-12X50. The price for the Nikon's seem to be a bit cheaper than Leupold. What do you think is best.....

Hi
Both are premium riflescopes with plenty of loyal fans. Of the two you mentioned, I like the Nikon for its optics (by a slight margin), but for durability and especially customer service, it's always hard to beat a Leupold. _________________ ----------------------

Mitchell | You can't go wrong with Leupold. The accuracy and presicion alone sells itself. Both are of good quality, but if price is not a concern, then I would definately go with the Leupold Vari-XII. You will be extremely happy with your choice and the warranty is good for a lifetime. |

The Monarch is a superior scope to the VX-II. If you were to upgrade to a VX-III then I would probably say go with the Leupold. Of course then You are in a whole other price range. Betwen the two, take the Monarch.
