Best scope for Marlin 1985 45-70

I have a marlin 1895 Cowboy rifle (45-70) and would like good opinions on good scopes to mount on it. My price range is up to $300 but I would like to spend around $250. I am considering Nikon Buckmaster or Bushnell Elite scopes. Any recommendations from you guys?

Your rifle combines relatively stiff recoil with a fairly short range. I would keep things to say maybe a 1-4 variable or a fixed 4X. Either scope with a 20-24 mm objective. Leupold has recently come out with some nice fixed powers and the European variables that you can get for under $300.
