I have been wearing American optical aviators straight bar glasses for over 20 years and I am wondering if I am getting the max uv protection. I had always believed that since the military pilots wear them, they should be good to go.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Technology on lens coatings has progressed greatly in 20 years. I seriously doubt your old AOs will offer the protection of current models.
