microscope to examine textiles

My wife is in graduate school currently using a Fisher Scientific Micromaster III 63451 with binocular 10x eyepieces and 4x 10x 40x objectives.

She uses the microscope to examine textiles and fabrics.

Built in illumination, movable mechanical stage and eyepiece with pointer are important to her. But it would cost nearly $600 to get her what she now uses.

Is there any microscope out there that would suit her needs that would be a few hundred dollars less expensive?

Thanks for the prompt reply and suggetion.

I a;ready looked at the Meade model on your site but it lacks the lower power objective of 4x (40x with eyepiece) which is extremely important to her.

I also see no mention in the product description of having a pointer which she finds extremely useful when going from lower to higher magnification.

Otherwise it has the features.

any other suggestion?

If you want the best value in a micorscope, go with the LOMO BMH4-BF, http://www.opticsplanet.net/mulbm.html Price is a bit higher than your indicated budget, but this Russian made, reseacrg grade scope is in another league than the Meade and I'm sure one of our sales people will work a bit on the price for you (tell'em I sent you.) Has all the features you want and more.
