| Hello, Ive been into target shotting for a while now and I am getting tired of walking down range to check my targets. I want to buy a spotting scope that will work from 25 yrds. to 300 yrds. And be able to see the bullet grouping as clear as if I was standing 2 ft away from the target. Im not sure what power to buy and dont want to get stuck with something thats not going to work for me. Anyone got any advice or web links to help I would be in your debt. Thanks |

Hi
For scoring targets at 25 yards, almost any spotting scope will work, even a small 50mm scope such as the Bushnell Trophy 20-50x50, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bush-ss-trophy-wp-787325.html In fact, this little guy will probably work out to 100 yards on a good day.
300 yards is a much different ball game. Here you will need 60x, good seeing conditions and an excellent spotting scope, preferrably with ED glass. This won't come cheap. The minimum I would recommend here is the Bushnell Elite 20-60x80, http://www.opticsplanet.net/620080.html From there prices rise sharply as you get into Kowa, Penatx, Nikon, Leica and Swarovski 80mm class scopes. _________________ ----------------------

| I agree fully with jne @ opticsplanet on your current requirements. I just received some bad news regarding O/P product line of LOMO Astele spotters as their support of military contracts will suspend their production of the current mak telescopes. I was first introduced to LOMO while watching a NASA channel archive footage of the MIR space station. The Cosmonauts were looking down upon the earth with LOMO maks. So I decided to purchase both the Astele 70 & 95, awesome optics for the price. Within 500 yds the LOMO 70 ZM, (product# LA-SS-ASTELE70) is an excellent performer. greater than 500 yds to 1200 yds, I recommend the LOMO 95 which is no longer available. Beyond that range you'll need a web cam in a bunker & laptop to see anything or a long walk. So snag a LOMO 70 ZM or be prepared to spend ALOT of $$$...Regards... |
