Is the Weaver Night Digital Night Vision Scope a better product than the Bushnell 26-0200 and Night Owl Gen 1 scopes simply because it is digital? Thanks.

Hi

Not all digital NVs are created equal. Price is a good guide. The Weaver is an early digital product and is comparable in performance to a conventional Gen 1, such as the Bushnell or Night Owl.

There are a couple advantages of going digital, though. Digital night vision units are easier to use with cameras, since you can attach any camera or camcorder equipped with a video input to the digital night vision unit with a simple RCA video cord. This circumvents the need to find an adapter, which is a problem with most conventional NV units, especially Gen 1. Also, digital units are not damaged by exposure to bright light, as are most conventional night vision products.

To go beyond Gen 1 performance in a diigtal, you will need to move up in price to a more recent (and expensive) digital product, such as the Bushnell Stealthview, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-night-vision-5x42-stealth-view-260542.html or Yukon, http://www.opticsplanet.net/yukon-digital-night-vision-ranger-28041.html
