Rangefinding Binoculars

I am looking for some rangefinding biinoculars. I will be using them to range metal plates out to 1000 yards. I was trying to decide between the Leica 10x42 Geovid and the Leupold RXB-4. Does anyone have any information on the comparison of these two? Any feedback on either of these models would be helpful.

Much will depend on the size of the metal plates, but you are almost certainly going to need to mount the binoculars on a tripod if you expect to get a reading off the target consisitently at 1000 yards. The Leica is certainly the better product in terms of construction and performance, but then, that's why it is priced the way it is. There is nothing finer in an RF binocular. If it doesn't work, no RF bino will. The Leupold may work for your applicatiion, but the margin for error will be a lot tighter.

To be honest, you can get the same ranging performance with a good RF monocular, such as the Laser Tech TruPulse 200, http://www.opticsplanet.net/laser-technology-trupulse-200-range-finders.html You are paying a premium with the Leica for the binocular optics.
