Gift comparison - Yukon, Night Owl & Bushnell

I am shopping for NV monoculars for my fiance's birthday gift. Primarily it will be a toy, but I (and he, I'm sure Laughing

) wouldn't mind having the rifle scope conversion abilities. I've read reviews and recommendations, and narrowed it down to four.

Seems like:
Idea

Bushnell digital is a favorite
Idea

Yukon indicates rifle conversion ability & preferred 4x magnification
Idea

Night Owls look identical with the Discovery having I/R
Idea

Explorer same without I/R

Any thoughts/reviews/opinions?

Hi

All Gen 1's have an IR, including the Night Owls, even if it isn't listed. Gen 1 units always need an IR to be effective.

Keep magnification down. NV is a low resolution technology and you will be happier with the image quality on a 3x. ASdding magnification only degrades image quality, especially on Gen 1. Only exception, here, is the Bushnell digital Stealthview - it can handle 5x effectively.

If you can afford it, absolutley no reason not to go with the Stealthview. Performance-wise, it is the best of the lot.

I'm in favor of a Yukon monocular due to the availability of rifle scope conversion kits. Question

Do either of these brands come with night vision and in the $200 - $350 range?

Hi

Performance favors a unit with a larger second number, which is the objective lens size. A larger objective gives the unit more light to work with, but also makes it physically larger.

As for the Ranger, it is an excellent unit, but backordered and not enough of a difference over the Stealthview to justify waiting for it.
