Bowhunting rangefinder!

I am looking at a rangefinder to mostly use while bowhunting but still need it to range to 400 yards when I rifle hunt. I have been looking at the leupold rx 2 and I like the small size. Does Nikon have one out that can get correct distances from trees. What do you think about the bushnells? I prefer the smaller models but am up for anything? thanks

Hi,

The Leupold RX-II is a good option for you, as is the Bushnell Elite 1500 with ARC. The Bushnell has both rifle mode and Bow mode for the Angle Range Compensation.

Bushnell will soon be releasing their new model, the Scout 1000 with ARC. This will be a smaller and lighter unit, but will not be available until late Fall.

I was told by one of my friends who own the RX-II that the angle compensation only corrects the distant by a couple of inches. What is your take on Angle Compensation gimmick

I have not personally used the RX-II angle compensating feature, but I have used the Bushnell Elite 1500. The longer the disctance, and the greater the angle, the bigger the difference it will make. Granted, I have never been bow hunting before, but I have heard nothing but great stuff about the Elite 1500. Of course, I had heard nothing but great about the Leupold RX-II until you said something.

I have a leupold RX-111 I all so hunt with a bow and it works good.
Shot two deer out of tree's up 30feet 1st deer was out 40yards and arrow hit dead center but he was about 7degree's don't think that was much of a test. no. 2 was at 25 yards and said to shoot for 22 yards hit dead center.For me that worked well becuase my bow sight is set for flat ground.
Now" what really suprised me was shooting my rifle at 343yards at a 30 deg or close to that. I don't remember what it told me to shoot for, but it hit all most dead center.
The only thing I don't like is it was supposta reach 1500 yards, and if I aim at something bright it will go to 900yards, like a bright stump, trees forget it at 1000 yards. 500-600 yards it works good.
