| I'm begining a new adventure in my hunting history by going on my first muzzleloading hunt for Mule Deer this fall. My wife bought me (on advice from my father-in-law) a CVA 290 Optima Pro Magnum muzzleloader and I wanted to put a scope on it. A couple of local gun shops concurred on a recomendation of the Bushnell Banner 3-9 but I wanted to ask for other opinions on this. |

Hi
A 3-9 will easily cover you for inline muzzleloader ranges, so in that respect, the Banner3-9x40 is an appropriate choice. As Bushnells go, the Banner is their low end line optically and mechanically. However. it will certainly do the job for you on a once a year deer hunt. Still, you might also want to check out some of the optically better choices, even in the Bushnell line. For instance, you will notice a difference in the Bushnell 3-9x40 Legend, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bu-3-9x40m-legend.html and especially with the Bushnell 3-9x40 3200 Elite, http://www.opticsplanet.net/bu3el32hascw.html In proportion to the price of your new gun, neither of these is an overpriced investment. _________________ ----------------------

Have you considered the Burris FFII with the ballistic Plex reticle? This design really shines with a muzzleloader. You can easily work your loads to work with the holdover out to 200 yards.
