Is the Meade DS2090 497 autostar a good beginner's telescope?

Hi

The DS2090 is a 494 Autostar, not a 497, but it is still a good choice in a beginner's telescope, especially if you are looking for a compact, portable telescope

The DS2090 has the 497 Autostar, I just got a ds2090 w/ 5 eyepieces and the #497 Autostar at Costco for $189.90m which is funny because the #497 retails for $199.

Hi

Be aware that Meade offers discount store versions of all their lower end models and specs and quality will vary from their standard models. The model we sell, direct from Meade, is the 494. It is not a Costco special.
