Hi,
I am ready to purchase a telescope but i'm having trouble deciding between the Meade ETX-125PE & the Celestron Nexstar 5SE. Both are very similar in specifications & price and I'm hoping you may advise which is a better quality scope.

Regards,

John

Hi John

Good question. Thanks for posting

Actually there are differences. The 5SE is a Schmidt-Cassegrain on a single arm mount and the 125 is a 5" Maksutov on a fork mount. I'd give the edge to the Meade in terms of resolution and image quality by a slight margin and I also prefer a fork to a one arm mount for stability. On the other hand, the 5SE is priced right and has a very user friendly computer. Either one will do a good job if you want a nice, portable telescope.

I noticed the you can buy a table top tripod for the ETX if you don't want to hassle with the large tripod. Is there a table top tripod available for the NextStar?

Thanks
