I need to watch ducks on a 15 ha lake at night and wondered what you would recommend I use? I have about $600 to spend.

Hi

By far, the best option is a digital, such as the Yukon Ranger or Bushnell Stealthview. Both offer Gen 2 quality at Gen 1 prices. You are throwing your money away on any Gen 1 product and that price won't be enough to get you into a conventional Gen 2
