I am interested in astrophotography and am considering the purchase of a MEADE LX200R 12". Is it necessary to purchase a "wedge"
for this scope to obtain high quality CCD astrophotography?

Also, the mount/tripod for this scope has been described in some owner
reviews as "flimsy". Is this too much scope for the supplied tripod?

Thank you.

Hi

Yes, if you plan to do astrophtography, you will need a wedge, such as the Ultra.

The mount is not as good as some more expenisve mounts, but more than adequate for all but the most sophisticated and demanding applications. It will work fine for general observation and astrophotography. Flimsy it is not.
