Folks,
I am planning to try some photography with Meade DS2130AT and it looks like there are two versions of adapter - basic (fixed) and sliding. Could you assist me with selection? It is going to be used with Maxxum 7D.

Hi

Either will work with your Minolta (you'll also need a Maxum t-ring)

The fixed, http://www.opticsplanet.net/meade-camera-125adapter.html is designed exclusively for prime focus photgraphy, meaning the camera body will be attached, without lens or eyepiece, to the telescope. In this type of photography, your 2130 will, in effect, become a 1000mm telephoto camera lens giving oughly 18-20x of magnification. This type of photography gives the highest image quality and is especially suited to photos of large extended nebulae or other objects best seen at low power. You can add a little magnification, though, by inserting a barlow into the scope first and then adding the adapter.

The variable, http://www.opticsplanet.net/meade-projection-camera-adapter.html can also be used for prime focus photgraphy, but it is really intended for eyepiece projection photography. In this type of photography, an eyepiece will be placed inside the adapter and your camera will essentially be taking a pic of the image produced by the eyepiece. This adapter will allow you to vary the distance of the camera from the eyepiece to adjust the amount of magnifcation produced. This type of photgraphy is primarily used for taking pics of planets or other objects requiring high magnification. Because of the higher magnification, image quality is usually not quite as good and tracking headaches more severe, but if you want to photgraph Mars and other planets, it is your only practical option with a scope with a focal length of 1000mm.
