EQ vs AZ

Good morning! I'm wondering if you can help me out with purchasing a telescope. I'm buying it for my husband for Christmas, but I'm clueless about the difference between an EQ and an AZ. This is a hobby for him. he loves star gazing. Can you help? Question

Hi

If he is using the scope strictly for astronomy, go with the equatorial - it will make tracking objects easier. If he is using the scope for both astronomy and daytime observation, the alt-az is a better choice.
