Hi

Going to a 2" diagonal is a waste of money in terms of light transmission, since you are effectively stopping it down to a 1.25" diagonal. Also, finding such a reducer is going to be something of a problem. Save your money.

Upgrading to a better diagonal, though, is a good idea. You not only get better image brightness, you also get better image quality, since premium diagonals have optically better mirrors and componenets that are better aligned. However, doesn't make much sense to upgrade to a better diagonal unless you have the eyepieces to justify it. I would upgrade your eyepieces, first.

Hi

Magnification-wise, you already have the bases covered. The 9.7mm plus barlow gets you up to 164x and that is plenty for an 80mm refractor. The most logical thing is to upgrade the quality of your eyepieces, then. If you want to go straight to Televues, great, but you can still notice a lot of improvement over the supplied eyepieces on that scope with the Meade Series 5000 Superplossls or the Vixen LVs. I like the LVs if you wear glasses and want the eye relief, but the Series 5000 Superplossls are excellent mid-priced eyepieces and will also get you a touch wider field of view. For a diagonal, the standard [urlhttp://www.opticsplanet.net/stellarvue-deluxe-mirror-star-1-25-inch-diagonal-d1031ed.html]Stellarvue[/url] is a good buy.
