Bought an ETX-80 from you for Chirstmas, and have had trouble getting the Erect Image Prism threaded correctly onto the body of the Telescope. Made Customer Service is sending me another prism, but I was wondering if you have heard of this issue before, and if you have a recommendation. Meade's instructional videos show the prism threading easily onto the rear body of the scope, but mine simply spins. The threads are not stripped, as the protective cover threads on with no trouble. I have not forced the prism either. any recommendation sare appreciated.
Thanks!! |

Hi
Yes, I have encountered a mismatch on the threads, though I'm not sure if it originates with the scope or the prism. I would try lubricating the threads to see if it helps, but I agree - do not force it. If it doesn't work, I would see what Meade offers as a replacement. Keep us posted. _________________ Thanks for posting with us

| Here's an update on my issues with the Erect Image Prism on my new ETX-80: Meade covered the part under warranty, as I could not find a way to get it to fasten onto the body of the scope. Today I received my new Prism: Same model number (933), same box, same appearance, but it is completely made of metal as opposed to plastic verison that came with the scope. It threaded onto the mount with no issues!!! Now if they could just send my replacement backpack (elastic for holding the tripod in place snapped on first use), I'll be all set. |

| To bring this to a conclusion, I received via UPS today a new Backpack to replace the one that had a faulty drawstring. Although this warranty replacement took a little longer than the prism replacement, Meade honored both products under warranty and in the case of the prism replaced the original product with one that is vastly superior. My 6 year old and I were able to use the scope to observe the lunar eclipse and also to view Saturn the other night, and all worked well. Although this scope is not the biggest/best scope out there, it works well for us as beginner astronomers - I'd definitely recommend it for novices and travellers. |
