I received a Tasco Propoint PDP3 red dot scope today from Opticsplanet. The only problem is that it seems to be assembled backwards. The instruction book says to view through the short barrelled end - but you can only see the dot looking through the long barrelled end. I am trying to figure out if I can just turn it around and look through it the wrong way - or do I need to return it for another one? Or is the manual just wrong?

The other thing - the book clearly says it takes one battery - but it came with two and the battery compartment is sized for two. Did I get some Chinese knock-off instead of the real thing??

I believe the real thing is a chinese knock-off.

It would be great to hear Joanie, the optics expert to comment on this.

I was merely pointing out that most of the Tasco line is made in china. Tasco has never been know for quality, hence the "Trashco" reputation. This is apparently worse now than ever before since they are owned by Bushnell. It seems that Bushnell really doesn't want the Tasco rights and has tried to sell the company off. That was blocked by the U.S. govt. Thus they are stuck with them for now and appear to be brand labeling chinese product that is in the same low quality arena as companies such as BSA and NC Star. Thus, you have a cheap "chinese knock-off". If it were me, I would return it and get my money back.

Hi

I talked to HH on this and then pulled another PDP3 (now made inthe Phillipines) off the shelf to see for myself. The PDP3 is indeed set up in reverse of what the diagram in the instructions indicate. In other words, the windage adjustment is on the left side when the scope is installed correctly and the eyepiece is at the end of the long tube instead of the short tube.

Now I was curious. I checked an Optronics Red Dot (made in China) and it was also set up with the windage on the left, so I also checked a Simmons. The Simmons (made in China), though, had the windage on the right as I would expect.

Okay, now I'm confused or maybe I'm getting old (definitely), but everything I've ever shot had the windage on the right. On the other hand, I can see that it would be an advantage for someone shooting right handed with a handgun to have the windage on the left - easier to make windage adjustments with the left hand.

I guess the bottom line here is that you can't assume anything anymore when it comes to all these products coming from across the big pond.
