I have a Rem 7mm ultra mag. I want to put the right scope but would like some advice on what you would recommend. I primary will use it for deer and other large N.A game. I will spend a little extra for quality. I expect to pay but don't want to pay a fortune. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

I prefer all around big game rifles to have all around scopes along the the lines of a 3-9x40. I use the Zeiss Conquest and feel that it is the best sub $500 scope that you can get. There are better scopes. But you will not see any significant improvement until you hit the $1,000 range. If money is not an issue, I am pretty impressed with the ne Kahles CLs with the multi-range zeros. If you don't know this scope, it actually allows you to zero your rifle at five different ranges of your choice. Or you can zero different bullet weights, this is a great option if you are going on a multi-species hunt (elk/deer combo).

I agree. We've had a lot of positive feedback on the Conquest and the ones I've examined had terrific optics.
Ranburr's advice on magnification is also right on the money. We get besieged with requests for 6-24, 8-32 and 10-40 zooms with 50mm objectives or more for guys wanting all around big game scopes. Maybe times have changed, but I still think that a conventional 3-9x40 or 2.5-10xx40 class scope of high quality will work for nearly any kind of big game hunting. _________________ ----------------------

I want to thank both of you for your great feedback. It never fails to have peope that you know tell you what they think but the majority of their information is based off of personal experience and preference (which varies from one spectrum to the other). So your feedback is appreciated and will definitly help towards my purchase.
Thanks Again
