Eye relief

I bought a Nikon 7x35 action binoculars recently, but found that the eye relief is only 12mm. There are many websites that advises at least 15mm for eye glass wearers....how important is this? the price difference between one that is 12mm and one that is 17mm or more is huge, any advice on this specs? Is it that bad, I do not seem to feel such a great difference....or does it depends on how long you are using it...

Thank you for your interest in www.OpticsPlanet.com. It is important to find your optimal eye relief so you can use the full field of view in your binoculars.

Eye relieve is relative to the magnification and size of your binoculars. The higher the magnification, the shorter the eye relief. Same for objective size, the smaller the lens, the shorter the eye relief.

My first suggestion for anyone with glasses is to try to focus the binoculars without glasses. Depending on how bad your eyes are, you can usually get away with it. If you must wear glasses, you will need to fold down the eyecups on the binoculars and get your glasses right on the eyepiece. The glasses then make up the difference, to give you optimal eye relief.

If you are using glasses, then the longer the eye relief, the better.
