My first spotting scope selection criteria:

Cost less than $700, 80 MM, ED lenses, lifetime warranty, I keep things forever and expect them to last!

Please discuss warranty (what can go wrong and does the mfg really care), lenses quality (how to find out who's are really good), useful life( is this going to stand up to use), durability (bumps and drops), and mfg reputation (are their products really good), for the following:

Vortex Skyline A 20-69x80 ED
Bushnell Elite 20-60x80 ED
Pentax PF80 ED w/ Zoom 20

And any other you might recommend!

Many thanks from a Newbie Birder.

Hi

Your only choices here are the Vortex and the Bushnell. The Pentax PF80, when you buy it with the eyepiece, will run you over $1000.

As far as warranty, both are quite good and really not an issue. Both are really top choices in an ED scope at this price.
