Hi,
I'm going to Yellowstone on vacation, and I was thinking about purchasing a scope. I honestly don't want to spend a lot of money, so I was wondering about the cheaper scopes. How do they compare with binoculars, and how can I get a decent distance, clarity, and fairly lightweight scope for not more than $150? I know you "get what you pay for" but I'm not an expert or anything, and am looking for something that I can use which I can see animals at a closer distance than I do through my digital camera. Can you offer some suggestions?
Thanks! Smile

Hi

All spotting scopes lose image quality as you zoom up in magnification and the cheaper the scope, the sooner this happens. In spotting scopes, perhaps as in no other instrument, is price so directly related to quality and performance. You will get EXACTLY what you pay for in a spotting scope.

Try the Celestron Ultima 65 for an inexpensive scope.

ok... how does that compare to the Celestron C65 Mini Mak WP Waterproof Spotting Scope? I checked them both out on your site, and they seem like basically the same thing only one is a 'mini'?

Hi

The Ultima is a significantly better scope, both in terms of optics and construction. Go with the Ultima. The C65 is not in the same class.
