| I have been lurking on the site for quite a while now and have learned a lot. Very valuable info. I know you are keen on the Kowa scopes and I have been impressed by the few I have looked through. My primary uses for a scope will be checking rifle targets out to 300+ yds., general viewing, and I would like to try my hand at digiscoping. So my question is this, would I be better off (for about the same money) with a large used non-ED Kowa such as the 881, etc. or buying a new 663ED? I tend to lean towards the larger scopes, but that may be just a rookie mistake. My budget is about $1000-$1200. Thanks for the help. |

Hi
Glad to help.
If you are serious about digiscoping, I would make an ED or similar high perfromance glass objective a priority. ED will give you sharper pics at any magnification. For visual work, you probably won't notice a difference between a standard objective and an ED objective, all else being equal, until you get above 40x or so, but for any kind of photography, ED will make a difference. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
