Hi!

Is there a fair scope with an objective of 100mm or so below or around $500? Or would I be better of to spen my money on a smaller scope and get better quality for the bucks?

I something fieldworthy to be used under low light conditions (far up north).

Hi

ALWAYS go for optical quality. Just going with a larger objective is no guarantee of better preformance. A poor objective, regardless of size, always results in poor optics. There is also a serious issue of size and portability with any 100mm scope, not to mention the need for a larger and more expensive tripod. For any spotting scope application, short of astronomy, 80mm is plenty.

Hi and thanks for taking your time answering my questions.

If I, regardless of your advices, would like to consider a something around 100mm - are there any decent alternatives within $500?????

Hi

Not in my opinion. I would still take a better 80mm to bigger 100m scope. I don't think trading quality for a larger objective is going to get you anywhere in terms of performance.

If you want the big stuff, try the Ultima 100, the Konuspot 100 or the Zhumell. I think you will get better otpics by spending the same amount of money on an 80mm scope, but go for one of these if you want a big scope. I don't regard one to be necessarily better than another.
