Hi--I;m having a hard time figuring where all of these fit. I understand the Nikon system, but Pentax has so many models I don't know the difference. I'm looking for an 8X from 32 to 43mm. HRc? XP? WPII? SP? Same with Vortex/Stokes/Audobon. Seems they have models like the Talon for $200, whats the difference with the sidewinder? etc...

On paper, there would no difference between pentax hrc and dcf sp, or any other brands low-end and high-end models.
The real difference comes in optics and better coatings in terms of edge-edge sharpness, lesser image distortions and less CA.

To be honest, the difference between $300 and $1000 bins is not proportional with their price. You pay much higher amount, for lesser improvement in optics.

$300-$400 price range is most over-crowded in market because, in this price range you can get the best bang for the buck.

If you want to get best optics for price, do consider porro prism also.
Under $200 nikon action ex,pentax pcf wpII are best choices in porros.
Under $400 swift audobon porro would be better.
At $700, the great nikon SE which is often praised by many birders for its outstanding image quality.

Do to orders from the wife, I'll be looking at roof prisms only. I also like eye relief, as I wear glasses.
