Where are the brands "alpen, vortexx, and kowa", manufactured. Also, what are the quality of the lenses. I looked through a friends old "unertyl",brand scope, at the rifle range, and was really impressed at the resolution of the lenses, especially considering the age of the scope. How would the above brands measure up to the unertyl. I'm not sure of the model of the unertyl, but he said he had it at least 40 years.

Can't comment on Unertl, since it is not something we carry. The Kowas are amde in Japan and are always excellent, optically. The Vortex and Alpens are made in China, though the higher priced versions are also excellent in terms of optics.
