What is the difference between the
Swift 8.5x44 HCF Audubon Binoculars 828
and the
Swift 8.5x44mm BWCF Audubon Waterproof ED Binoculars 820ED
There is almost 150$ in difference and the first one is a porro. Is it better glass? waterproofing |

Hi
The difference is the difference between a roof prism and a porro, yes.
The 820ED is optically as good as a bino can get at this price and it offers superb color correction. On the negative side, eye relief is not going to be the 17mm published. It is more like 12mm when you actually use it with glasses. Like any porro, it will also be large and bulky in comparison to a roof. It is waterproof, though. One of the last great prros, sad to say. If you want a porro, this is one to get.
If you wear glasses and/or if handling is an issue, the 828 is a much nicer bino and it is no slouch when it comes to optics. It is one of my personal favoritesat this price in a roof. Great birding binocular. _________________ Thanks for posting with us

the optics, regardless of the prism are better on the 820 than the 828?
They are going to be used for hunting, but I cant really spend 1000's on a binocular (yet!).... is the glass quality of the 828 comparable or should I go for the 820's due to better imaging?
thanks! |

Hi
You are really splitting hairs on the optics. Very close. The much improved handling qualities of the 828, smoother focusing, better waterproofing via internal focusing and better eye relief make the 828 a better choice for hunting in my opinion. _________________ Thanks for posting with us

thanks a lot!
i wasnt sure if it was worth hauling more weight due to better image quality. I guess not!
i know it is the most saturated level, but at around this price anything comparable or better?
Thank you very much... |
