I have decided on one of the two above for observing bullet holes 100-300 yards which I know is pushing it - but the price is pushing it as well. I will probably go with the SKL-80S: Vortex Skyline 20-60x80mm - angled or straight - have not made up my mind here ....

I need a case and table tripod for these as well. This is for range work and not field work.

What would you suggest as a complete kit? Very Happy

Hi

Go with the bigger scope - 300 yards will be a challenge, even for the larger objective. I generaly recommend an ED scope for that range.

There is no better, optically, between an angled and a straight.

Staight bodied spotting scopes are easier to line up on target for beginners and also balance nicer if you attach a heavy camera for photography.

Angled bodied scopes are more comfortable to look through for longer periods of time and are more stable, because they can sit lower on the tripod. Angled scopes are also a better choice for looking at objects at an elevation and are a better choice if you are sharing the scope with people of different heights.

Either configuration, however, will work for almost any application, with personal preference being the deciding factor. Some shooter like straight, some angled. These days we sell 60% angled and 40% straight

For a shooters tripod, try the Bushnell Shooters.

Thanks for your "quick" reply -- much better than an "another" website's forum has done ... Laughing

One additional question, what about a case for the kit?

Hi

The Skyline comes with a see through case and also a table top tripod (no tripod on ED version) which may work for you on the shooting bench. If not, you can always add the Bushnell.

BTW if this goes well, I will be getting back with you concerning a set of Steiner Binocs for the field.
