| Are Swarovski Habicht binoculars the best waterproof porros? Or are there any serious contenders like the porros from Swift, Minox, Opticron, Bynolyt or other manufacturers? Is the Habicht's view comparable to the Nikon SE? I know these Nikon binos are awesome, but not waterproof. |

Hi
You are going to have a tough time find Swarovski porro prisms, anymore. Most have been dropped by Swarovski for sale here in North America.
Swarovski porros have always been great binos, but they are no more waterproof than a waterproof Steiner, Swidt and so on. I would not select one on that basis, alone.
No, I don't rate any porro to be quite as sharp or bright as the Nikon Permier SE, feature for feature, but certainly many come close. As far as waterproofing, I have used a Nikon SE for years in all types of weather with no problems. They are not techically waterproof, because Nikon does not nitrogen purge them, but they are very well sealed. _________________ Thanks for posting with us

Hi,
thanks for your quick reply. I still like porros and since the armoured version of the Swarovski Habicht is not produced anymore, I toyed with the idea to buy one of the last ones.
I've heard that the focus wheel of Swarovski porros could be rather stiff especially when its cold; some people said the bino is unusuable at cold temperatures. Is this really such a big problem? |

Hi
That is a probelm common to porro prisms. In general, porros will not focus as smoothy as a roof and will also typically require more effort. Just the nature of the beast. Just depends on how critical this is to you and your application. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
