| do the opti-logic xt series rangefinders have a scan mode? How about brush and rain interference? I'm a bow and gun hunter looking for the best rangefinder for these applications. The 800xt swat model also says that it is temperature compensating. Is this of much benefit? |

Hi
The beauty of the Optilogics are their simplicity, but it is also a negative if you are looking for all those modes. No scan, but rain is listed as automatic, and brush is negotiated by having what Optilogic describes as a "narrow beam".
Tilt compensation is a useful mode for archers and golfers. If you sight in your bow on level ground, your pins are set for a given horizontal distance. When shooting from a tree, however, you have a problem. If a deer is standing 15 yards from the tree, the horizontal distance from tree to deer is therefore 15 yards. When you target the deer in your RF, however, you get the reading from your elevated position down to the deer. This is always greater than the horizontal distance. This is called the slope distance. If you shoot on the basis of the slope distance, you will therefore shoot high. Tilt compensated models will correct for this and give the more useable horizontal distance, even when shooting from an elevated distance. _________________ ----------------------
