Due, in part, to the rave reviews on this site, I decided that I might like to try a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 on my Remington 700. After finding one at the store for $399 (old stock?), I jumped in. We mounted the scope in Leupold 2 piece bases and low rings. Although everything looked great, the bolt handle rubbed against the rubber ring around the eyepiece. I tried the medium rings, but didn't like the increased height as I had to lift my head a little more than I like. The rifle has a standard sporter barrel and the clearance under the objective looked perfect in the low rings - too bad.
I tried a Nikon Monarch and had the same issue (no 4200's of the right size in stock to try). I finally went with a VX-lll that fit perfectly in the low rings. I may be giving up a very small amount of brightness (and a few bucks), but I think I will be happier with the lower mount.
If the Zeiss does not fit you may have to go with a higher ring. You can also add a cheek pad to the stock of your rifle to make up the height difference. _________________ Best Regards,
