Binoculars for work

I'm looking for a pair of binoculars or a monocular for use in inventory control. What I need is to be able to read product ID numbers 15-25 feet up from the ground, shanding no more than 5 feet from the front of the rack containing the product. The ID number is just a little over 1/4 of an inch tall. I've already tried a 10x25 monocular, but am unable to focus well enough to read the product numbers unless i stand approx 30 feet away, and our racks do not permit this in most areas

Any assistance would be appreciated

Hi

You already have a 10x optic and that is the max you can handhold for steadiness. Going to a 10x binocular won't make much difference, here, in terms of image detail. Only option is more magnification, but going to a higher magnification instrument comes with a price. It means you will need to find a way to support the additinal magnification. That means either a spotting scope on a tripod or, perhaps, an image stabilized binocular. I would opt for a compact spotting scope on a tripod as being the most effective. If you can keep the magnification down to 20x or so, you can even subsitutue a monopod for the tripod.

The 10x Magnification seems to be plenty, but I can't focus at the distance I need. I can focus fine if I stand farther back, but there are phisical limitations in most of the warehouse. Would I have more luck focusing using something like an 8x? I have a 5x but the magnification on that is not enough.

10x porro models, like the typical 10x40, do not focus close. Typical is 20ft. Try a roof prism model. The close focus is roughly correct for all binoculars you can shop for here.

Yes, if it is just a matter of close focus, just check the specs on a binocular, as this is a commonly listed spec and, as ET says, most roofs are better than porros in this respect.
