| I have a pair of Nikon 8x32 SE and 10x42 SE's, both of which are great, but I much prefer the 8x32. Now I want a premium roof prism for rain, and for the thrill of something new. I plan to get the Zeiss FL, but I can't decide on a 7 or 8x42 or the 8x32. I like the wider field of view and the lighter weight of the 32mm, but am I sacrificing a great deal of light gathering or clarity by not getting the larger objective? I wonder if my 57 year old eyes will be able to detect the extra light and color rendition, or am I just adding a few ounces and dollars for the 42mm? Thanks for you help. |

Hi
Light is not an issue by dropping down to a 32mm - does not translate to anything significant in the field. On the other hand, you do lose a bit of image resolution, but not enough to be an issue. I find that what little I lose with an 8x32 in optical performance is more than offset by what I gain in portability and handling. If you liked the 8x32 SE (and you should), you will also like an 8x32 roof. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
