Hello all..... I spent the afternoon (actually, week ) Googling around, and read this forum back to 2006.
I'm looking to upgrade the scope that came on my Beeman R9 air rifle, a Bushnell Banner that has had the magnification ring stuck since day one. Other then that, it's worked well.
My view is that, if i'm going to spend REAL money on a "BB gun" scope, i might as well get the real deal, something that can fill in on my 700 PSS ( soon to be Tikka T3) if my Leupold MK IV were to get crunched.( heaven forbid).
I've been researching like you wouldn't believe, and i've narrowed the field to several Bushnell Elites ( since they're so universally acknowledged as air-rifle worthy) and because they're also considered very high quality in the "real" gun world. One thing i'm concerned about is parallax adjusability, though less than i once was. My brother and i tend to shoot at longer ranges, never at anything less than 20 yards, more often at 50,75,and 100. So, obviously, a scope parallax-set at 100 meters should be OK.(uh....right? Please, feel free to elaborate further on this, too !! )
OK, this is where i really need your help.
I've found the beloved, but sadly discontinued 4200 3-9x40 for well under $300 delivered. No parallax, but great scope & great deal.
Next, the Elite 3200 4-12x40 WITH AO for about $280 delivered.
Next, the Elite 3200 3-9x40 (no AO) for about $185 delivered.
And since i really love target knobs and the mil-dot reticle ( i know how to use it) I'm also considering the fixed 10x 3200 at under $200 and the 5-15x40 3200 mil-dot at $329.
So, i'm sure you can see my dilema. As i just dumped the cash on a Tikka T3 ( and the Banner on my Beeman is actually working OK ) I'm trying not to dump a big load of cash, yet i'm fully aware that with optics......do it right or don't do it at all !! Any help much appreciated...... |

First, you need an AO. You will not group at 10 meters or 20 yards like your gun is capable of without it. All Elites WITHOUT SIDE FOCUS are airgun rated and worth every penny. My R-1 and other good spring guns have had a variety of scopes on them from the Bushnell Sportview and Trophys with AO to a personalized 3-9 Leupold EFR to a Swift High Recoil airgun scope and many others. The finest scope you can buy is probably the Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x40 EFR Target. If you peruse the Beeman catalogs you will see a variety of Bushnell Trophys recommended for the higher powered guns. _________________ Aim Hard!

Thanks for the speedy reply,Steven, but as i said ( trying NOT be a be a smartass, here) we don't shoot 10-20 yards, we hang targets out at 50 to 100.
So, ( i was asking) how critical really is having parallax adjustability?
Also, (as stated) i'm not interested in Low-budget scopes like a Sportview, as i just said my Banner came busted from the factory. Also, (this was in my question, too), i'm looking at scopes of a more respectable level of quality
( like the 3200 and 4200's,that was in there, too) and was hoping for reasoned suggestions out of those several, also as i said, you know....in my post, i'm trying NOT to drop a lot of money, which puts a Leupold VXIII more than a little out of my range, i believe.
But other than not reading my post beyond "....Beeman R9...." i still appreciate the effort. |

| But....to be fair, that bit of info about only the elites "without side focus" being air-gun rated was something i DIDN'T know, and allows me to narrow the field a bit, mostly eliminating the higher-cost 4200's. So, thanks.,.....M. |
