I need a scope to ID male from female Kestrels (falcons) and to see if they have landed on my traps. I do research on them. I am typically 300-400 yards away but some of the viewing will be from farther distances. I have about $400-$450 available for the purchase. I will want a window mount because most of my watching is out of a vehicle. Do you have advise on the best scope for my money?

Hi

Price is always the most reliable indicator of quality and performance in a spotting scope. You can get a good scope in that price range in the Alpen 788 or Vortex Skyline. You can use any standard window mount, such as the Nikon 7070. For use with a window mount, you will probably find a straight scope to be more comfortable.
