.......................There is an article you can read on the Marlin XL7 now at.......shootingtimes.com.....Click onto "long guns" from the home page!.........The least expensive Remy is their SPS matte. You cannot beat the Remy 700 action for strength, but I don`t see how the Marlin`s action won`t stand up either!..... However, I find the Marlin XL7`s stock more attractive than the SPS stock and don`t see any reason why this new Marlin cannot do the job as well as the Remy in the field and be just as accurate!!.............If I`m not mistaken, I believe that the SPS is over $500 while the Marlin has a MSRP of $326!

You can't beat the 700, biggest thing you're gaining out of the box is access to accessories/ replacement parts. Scope basses are the biggest deal immediately. beyond that you can incredibly accurize with stocks/ barrels etc.

I'd go for the rem 700 also. Like above mentioned, the parts and accessories are everywhere.

If you are just going to take it out of the box and slap a scope on it and go hunting or to the range a few times a year, go with the cheaper marlin. If you are a fanatic about accuracy, which you may not realize yet, go with the 700.

I'd go Savage every time! get a standard 10FP hunting rifle with the acu-trigger and u will be amazed of the accuracy out of the box!

I agree. I have used the acu-trigger and due to drop test laws, it is the best out of the box of anything I have seen. Yes, you can get after market triggers for Remington that are very, very good; but for the price and my experience I would go with Savage. I got one of their .22 magnums (I believe it was called the 92 ?) right when the company came out of bankruptcy. It was made in Canada. It was by far the best shooting .22 mag I every owned (up until that point in history the .22 mag wasn't considered by many to be an accurate round. In actuality there just wasn't too many loads for it and like .22LR they are finicky about what they like. Thankfully there are more loads available now).

I would not hesitate on the Savage
