Hello,

I have bought Celestron Starhopper 6” dobsonian telescope (f/Cool from opticsplanet. It came with 25mm eyepiece.

I am thinking abt buying Celestron eyepiece kit 94303. I am looking for detailed technical spec for eyepieces included in this box, but I am not able to find them anywhere.

- What are the types of these eyepieces? Are they basic or Omni or X-cel series?

- What are the eye relief values on these eyepieces?

I do wear glasses and prefer to use my glasses while observing. I have heard that short focal length eyepieces have small eye-reliefs. If that’s the case, then eyepieces in this kit: 9mm, 6mm, 4mm are they any good to me w.r.t eye-relief values? In-fact I am not sure abt 15mm eyepiece either.

One more “novice” question regarding the size of the eyepiece front lens. (the lens where we look into the eyepiece).. I have seen that short focal length eyepieces have small size of the eyepiece front lens (Not sure if this is indeed called as exit pupil)… generally I have trouble looking thru it because its really small aperture. but are there any eyepieces with short focal length, but with larger front lens ?

I am just a beginner.. sorry for any stupid questions..

Thanks for your help in advance.. any suggestions are most welcomed.

Hi

Celestron claims they are basically a Plossl, so essentially an Omni grade eyepiece.

Celestron does not list the eye relief, but, as with any Plossl, do not expect much eye relief once you drop below 20mm. If eye relief is an issue for you, go with some X-Cels or barlow up with a longer focal length eyepiece as needed.

A small lens diameter is standard for all short focal length eyepieces and it corresponds to the loss of eye relief you get with these short focal lengths. You can get arounf both issues by going with eyepieces that have a set eye relief at all focal lengths, such as the X-cels, Televue Radians, Vixen LVs and so on. More expensive, but if you prefer to keep your glasses on, as I do, well worth the money.
