hi guys, would appreciate some feedback on what may not be a problem at all. Today I looked through a pair of 8x42 Vortex Diamondbacks.
The focussing was good on both close and distant objects and the FOV seemed good as well. However, I noted that there was a 'red' halo along the edge of objects, particularly when the skyline was in the background, or sunlight was shining on an object. I tried holding the binoculars slightly offset to the right of my eyes and yep it was red edging stuff. When I moved towards the left slightly, the color changed to almost bright yellow. The only way I could reduce the effect was to basically disregard viewing the object and continually shift the binoculars up, down, left, right and would at times seemed to have the problem solved momentarily, only to have it occur if the shift in position was so slight I can only describe as thousandths of an inch !
So, after that long winded essay, intended to provide detail for a response, , are diamondbacks all like that, as well as, comparable price/ quality binoculars?
In the past I have used basic bushnell, bell & howell, etc binoculars that were lower cost and did not have anywhere near the frustration of these diamondbacks, not impressed enough to order a pair.

thanx

Hi

That can happen to some extent with any binocular, especially one in this price range, but the only way to see if that individual unit was more than typical would have been a side by side comparison under the same conditions with another model. That one unit could have been a lemon, sure, but we have sold enough of these and have received enough positive feedback for me to suspect that it is not ypical. However, if you aren't confident in the Diamondback, you have many other models to choose in this general price range. You could try a Bushnell Excursion, for instance.
