Hi.
Is it possible to use a spotting scope and pipe the image to a PC monitor and record as video? Our intended application is for a space shuttle launch. Before launch it would be great to have my kids and cousins gathered around the monitor for a close-up of the launchpad; then record the lift-off....?
What equipment/combo would you recommend?
Thanks! |

Interestingly, Jeff Bouton, Leica's product specialist, blogged about doing something very similar to this at a convention in Las Vegas in order to watch the Super Bowl:

(scroll down to his February 14, 2008, entry).
While your idea will work Joanie, I'm not sure if it will give Steve the results he is seeking.
Cheers. |

Hi
Appreciate the info, but I have to disagree. I have been using a Kowa 663 for all of my birding and digiscoping for the last 5 years and have never felt at a loss. I have also owned and used used every premium spotting scope there is, including a Leica APO. By all means, if you want to spend $2000 plus, go for it, but at its price, the Kowa is the best thing going. It's also considerably lighter and more compact than any 80mm class scope. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
