Scope Comparison

Did a little homework and am more confused than ever. Nikon Fieldscope 25 x 75 - 82 mm ED, and Nikon FS 20 x 60 - 60 mm ED, KOWA 663 with 20 x 60x eyepiece, Bushnell Elite, Pentax PF 80?

Am I reading correctly that Nikon advertises large FOV of 150+ at 1,000yds for their FS 82 and 60 mm scopes.

Eye relief, FOV, relative brightness - what is most important for spotting game and general animal and bird viewing.

Any help with choosing a scope for hunting and general game/bird watching would be sincerly appreciated.

Hi

The features you list are more a function of the eyepiece than the scope.
In truth, none of these features translates into much in terms of spotting game. Optical quality and resolution count, here, not specs and, in this regard, the Nikon 82ED wins. It is the brightest 80mm class scope I have ever tested and optics are in a class with premium scopes made in Europe.

Forget RE - it is any empty number that does not take into account many other optical factors that influence image brightness.

Eye relief is only an issue if you wear glasses or are at a shooting bench and you can change eyepieces if you need more on any of these. Same for FOV - that is a function of eyepiece design and magnification.
