We are looking for a spotting scope. We live on the top of a mountain and have a two lakes and mountains for our view (yes, we are very lucky). We mainly will be using the scope in the house and we would like to able to see as far as possible and as clear as possible. I have tried to pick one out myself, but way too many and too much info. Please help!!

Hi

Price is always the best indicator of quality and performance in a spotting scope, so you need to decide what to budget, first. Prices start at $50 but run as high as $4000.

For the basics on higher power observation instruments, both binoculars and spotting scopes, for horizon watching or distant wildlife, see our article at High Power Observation For Home Or Office This article also includes recommendations in various price ranges. It alos explains some of the limitations of instruments for daytime observation.
