Hello,
After 20 plus years with a lower end 60 mm, I am considering upgrading to a beter quality 80 mm scope.
I have looked through Swarovskis and while I have to admit that these are impressive, I am not willing to spend that kind of money. At the present time, I am leaning towards the Pentax PF 80ED. I like the fact that it accepts standard 1.25 in eyepieces as I assume it would allow one to more easily upgrade as better eyepieces become available.
Another option that I am considering is the Nikon Fieldscope ED 82. It too appears to be quite impressive for the price.
Which is the better of these two scopes? Are there others in the same price range that I should also consider?
I would rate the Nikon 82ED as a better scope. In my tests, it had better resolution and noticeably better image brightness. It is closer to a Swarovski, in terms of optics, than the Pentax. _________________ Thanks for posting with us
