I am looking for a decent ($200-$400) spotting scope. I would like a fixed power scope in the 20x-30x range. This will be a backpack scope while hunting big game so size and weight are a concern. I am not worried about high magnification because if I am hiking and can't tell what size the game is with a 20x-30x scope I don't think I can hike that far in one day.

Thanks for the help and advice.

I would be open to a 18-36 scope, but feel that for the same price a fixed 20-30 would be of higher value..

I have a 80mm nikon scope I use for car spotting, so this will just be for packing.

Hi

Problem is finding a scope in this price range that offers optional, fixed power eyepieces. Zoom are nearly universal on spotting scopes at this price and very few scopes at this price offer optional eyepieces.

The Nikon Prostaff 65 is as close as you will come. The 16-48 zoom comes with the scope and, top be honest, it will probably do anything you want for this application, but you can always add a fixed 20x or 30x, later.
