getting h&r ultra varmit 207ruger. are the barska swat scopes any good or are they like buying bsa or tasco.

Worse than BSA because in addition to the crappy optics they have a horrible odor. Not joking, they really do stink, literally and figuratively.

Barska are inexpensive scopes made in China. In the past, they have made low end scopes for other companies, including some Tasco models and some Bushnell models. In this quality range, price is a good indicator of what you are getting - same features, same price, same quality, same moderate-high return rate overall. Brand is irrelevant.

The Barska SWAT is a poor investment for serious tactical work or for anyone who does a lot of shooting. As always, buy according to your needs and keep your expectations in line with the price.

Ya know,

it all in how you use it. even an elcheapo used by someone who knows what they are doing will have just as a devastating effect as the highest dollor scope. remember...it has more to do w/ ability, your rifle,....followed byyour scope. anyone ever hear of this one?..."adapt and overcome!" Brasko scopes will hit dead on if you have good sense.

I have never "devastated" any animals with the scope, kind of ruins the scope, I prefer to actually hit them with those little high speed flying bullets instead. Scopes simply help "YOU" the shooter to see and aim well if it and you have both done your jobs, then you will put bullets on target with your thunderstick and bring home the meat. The Barska will simply help you a whole lot less than other scopes. It won't be as clear, it won't help you see later in the day towards evening, It won't help with long shots. Yeah on a bright sunny day within a reasonable range it might help you take a shot and you will be devastating to the game animal of choice. But when you really need it, will it be there for you? Not worth betting on.

The post above this by some website and not a user name smells very fishy to me. Lists features out of a marketing brochure and not actual first person testimonial on how it works. I have seen Barska's up close and personal at the shooting range and at gun shows, I would not say that they compare in anyway to the performance of a Leupold.

The person's english is off just enough to make me suspect its not his first language and he spelled Leupold wrong. So I am really suspicious that he is just a hack advertising for Barska (and his own website), especially when he saw the need to hype up the value of the scope to a post that is 2 years old. This is just a chance to advertise. Whereas I am just trying to be me and not support cr@%%y scopes and any type of businesses that hype them up and say they are just as good as Leupold (especially for the price), yeah right.

Since this guy is using his website address as his username and thereby advertising his sight, can we have his post removed just for general principals????? It is an actual website, I checked.

It all comes down to application if you really think about it. I mean, there are those guys out there that just have to have the best of the best. They will go out and buy a Swaro or a Zeiss for a rifle they will take out to the range a couple of times a year. Then there are the guys who are only going to go deer hunting a couple of times a year and will never get anything which is probably for the best because they would not know what to do with the meat if they did. They don't know how to cook it and if they did their family would not eat it. For those guys, I say go buy a nice $30 3-9x40 BSA. If you deer hunt every other weekend during gun season and you don't have alot of money, you may want to invest a little more in something like a Bushnell Legend. If you are a little more fanatic and go every weekend, bump it up to a $200-$250 nikon buckmaster or something else in that price range. If you are the fanatic that may actually do something other than just deer hunting in the next county like maybe you might want to go down to Texas and pig hunt, bump the price up another $100 - $150. If you day dream about going out west and hunting elk and you are actually putting money aside to do it, invest about $500-$600 in a scope. If you are putting you money away for an african safari or a red stag hunt in hungary or Argintina, go Swaro or a comprably priced brand. The point being that the more money that you spend on your hunt, the bigger the let down its going to be when you have equipment failure.
