I am on the maket for a reliable, rugged scope for a 270Win-30-06 class rifle. Most of my hunting would be open field with shots not exceding 150-180 yards. What brand, generation, magnification you think I need?

Sir,
I would recommend the ATN Trident Pro CGT, it is a top performer. You should get the 4x magnification for that type of range. The ATN Trdent Pro 4x will give you great performance, it comes with a tactical remote control, and can take those types of calibers.
Enjoy your hunting!

| Thanks for the info. I have checked ATN's site before and had the impression that Trident Pro is for military applications. Obviously that's not the case. Being waterproof is a highly desirable feature. I read good reviews about the Aries 7900 Crusader. Would it stand up to a 30-06 or just to a 223 varminter? |

Sir,
The Crusader MK7900 is a very good scope and would work with a 30-06, but for the application and the range you want to operate in it would be a little over kill in my opinion. The MK7900 would cost more than the Trident Pro 4x CGT or HPT. But if you like the MK7900 you should get what appeals to you. The Trident Pro 4x does have some great features and performce really well.
All the best,
